Studies show that eating 5 small meals a day may be healthier for your waistline, as well as overall health. When your employees are faced with only unhealthy choices in the vending machine, chances are they will be tempted to eat unhealthy on a regular basis. As a part of your employee wellness program, rather than letting your employees succumb to the downfalls of vending machine food, you can offer suggestions of healthy foods that they can keep in their desk to satisfy their hunger and keep them healthy.

·        Raw Nuts – Almost any variety of nuts can help to satisfy a person’s hunger, as well as give them the satisfaction of eating something crunchy. Almonds, walnuts, or cashews are a great choice. Look for low-sodium versions.

·        Trail Mix – It is easy enough to make healthy trail mix at home. Combine no-sugar-added dried fruits, such as raisins or cranberries, with any type of seeds and a handful of low-sodium nuts. This is a great way to satisfy sweet and salty cravings at the same time, while eating healthfully.

·        Popcorn – It is easy to make healthy popcorn at home, the old-fashioned way, on the stove. Once made, your employees can make individual portions to keep at their desk. This avoids any harmful additives and, if they avoid adding loads of salt or butter, it is very healthy for them, too.

·        Healthy Granola Bars – Granola bars without added sugars are a great option for a mid-day snack. They are a great way to avoid the unhealthy baked goods that constantly keep finding their way into most offices.

·        Fruits and Vegetables – There is nothing wrong with healthy fruits and vegetables. Encourage your employees to keep a stash of non-perishable fruits and veggies in their desk, such as bananas, apples, carrots or celery cut into bite-size pieces.
