Population Health Lesson from 2020: The Resilience of the Human Spirit

By Chris McReynolds, CEO of Wellsource

With a new year comes new possibility. In the world of health and wellness, it's a well-known fact that this time of year brings some new resolve when it comes to health habits. The new year is a blank slate, a time we make resolutions to join a gym, to eat healthy, to pursue habits that will lead to well-being in the new year.

That need to start fresh is even greater this year, as we close the chapter on 2020 and look forward in anticipation for 2021.

2020 was a challenging year for everyone. And those working in health and wellness found themselves called upon in unique ways, adapting our programs to the changing needs of a population in the midst of a global pandemic. It was exciting to see the way our industry and our clients answered that call—and we were very proud to support this important work.

For us at Wellsource, the events of 2020 brought about an opportunity to focus on what really matters most: our employees, our clients, and the millions of people who use our products in the pursuit of better physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being.

The short video below includes more of my thoughts on what we've learned in 2020, and the dedication and value we found in the population health community.

When I think back on the past year, one of the lessons I've learned is the incredible resiliency of the human spirit. I've gotten to see this firsthand—in the ways our employees rose to the challenge of unique working environments, in the dedication of our customers in serving their populations, and really in the way all of humanity has turned a new focus on physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being.

This, to me, has been a silver lining in a year rife with challenges.

So as we close the chapter from 2020 and look ahead with anticipation at 2021, I am heartened to think we bring with us the tireless dedication of the Wellsource team. We bring with us the hard work of our clients, and the renewed vision the health and wellness market has found in helping people live longer, healthier lives.
