Simple Ways to Make More Fun for Your Employees

By Heather Tourville
Work does not have to be a chore. Companies like Google started the trend of making the workplace fun, being a good example to companies everywhere to find ways to incorporate fun into their workday as a part of their wellness program . Creating a fun office environment not only increases productivity, but also increases your level of employee retention, something that most companies strive to achieve.
1)     Encourage your employees to decorate their space –Paint walls a soothing color; bring decorations and pictures from home. Let your employees’ creative juices flow by allowing them to decorate their cubby or office in a way that makes them happy.
2)      Have holiday parties – You don’t have to break the bank and have huge get-togethers every holiday. You could have little celebrations right in the office. Bring in some festive food, play some music, and let everyone relax and socialize.
3)      Have a game area – Break rooms do not have to be restricted to eating; you can make them a place to have fun, too. If you have room, bring in a pool table or foosball table, or just create an area to let employees play a quick game of cards to rejuvenate their brain and boost productivity.
4)      Post pictures – Take plenty of pictures of your employees having fun, whether on the job or at a work party. Post the pictures in a central place; they will promote plenty of fun conversation and bring up memories that are sure to bring out a laugh or two.
5)      Make success rewarding – Set company-wide and employee-specific goals, and celebrate them when they are achieved. The rewards can be something as simple as a special dessert day (keep it somewhat healthy) or a quick lunch out, or a few hours for everyone to take a break and have fun together.
