University of Michigan Plans to Exit the HRA market

Not long after Wellsource founder Dr. Don Hall pioneered the first computer-based health risk assessment 40 years ago, another industry leader was on the rise. At the University of Michigan, Dr. Dee Eddington created a health risk appraisal and founded the school’s Health Management Research Center (HMRC).

Fast-forward 30-plus years, and there have been major changes and developments in the wellness industry and population health management practices. One of those changes is the recent announcement that the University of Michigan’s HMRC will be closing Dec. 31, 2016.

In 2011, Eddington stepped down as director at the HMRC and launched his own wellness consulting practice, Eddington Associates. Over the last 30-plus years, Hall and Eddington worked together on more than one occasion, including helping the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention develop HRA guidelines for Medicare beneficiaries.
